Elmore and Morgan claim titles, with Bean collecting silver at Sand Springs Tourney

Three Pioneers finished the 1st day of competition undefeated, making their way to the championship matches. The first finalist was Jared Elmore (119) who used a couple of takedowns and a solid peformance on top to come away with a 5-4 win in the finals.
Luke Bean (189) was next up for the Pioneers, finishing off his tournament with a runner-up finish to Cody Johnson of Broken Arrow. The last Pioneer in the Championship was Travis Morgan (285), in a rematch of the 2009 State Championship.
Morgan's opponent was Terry Williamson of Broken Arrow and the last match of the night brought about plenty of excitement. As Morgan and Williamson battled on their feet for most of the match, several scambles proved to be vitally important as the match progressed. Both Morgan and Williamson came out on top of a scramble, but as time was about to expire in the 3rd period, Morgan was able to hold off a Williamson escape to push the match into overtime. Just a few seconds into overtime, Morgan was able to counter a Williamson shot and secure a 7-5 win.. With the win, Morgan sets the scene for a couple of more tough rematches with Williamson at Regionals and potentially at State.
